Camco Technologies in Vietnam: joining the royal state visit and empowering Haiphong Port’s smart launch

19 May 2025

This April marked a significant milestone for Camco Technologies in Vietnam. Not only did we have the honor of joining the Belgian King and Queen on a historic state visit, but we also proudly celebrated the launch of Vietnam’s first semi-automated container terminal at Haiphong Port. Two major events—one shared goal: building smarter, more sustainable port operations for the future.

A royal invitation: advancing sustainability through innovation

From March 31 to April 4, Camco Technologies joined Belgium’s royal delegation during a state visit to Vietnam, led by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde. Representing Camco were CEO Jan Bossens and Camco Asia’s CEO Abby Zhang.

It started with the opening of the DeepC administrative building by the royals followed by a high-level business luncheon, Mr. Jan Bossens was invited to the main VIP table alongside King Philippe, sharing the front row with leading Belgian captains of the industry, and delivered a speech. The discussions focused on sustainability, port automation, and digital transformation—topics that align closely with Camco’s mission and expertise.

This visit also opened the door to deeper cooperation with Vietnamese institutions, including the Ministry of Construction, and further strengthened our ties with Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT).

Smart technology at work: launch of Haiphong’s semi-automated terminal

On April 5, Vietnam marked a major infrastructure achievement with the official opening of the Hateco Haiphong International Container Terminal (HHIT)—a joint venture between Hateco Group and APM Terminals. Robert Uggla, Chairman of A.P. Moller-Maersk (APM Terminals' parent company), attended the ceremony and shared a few words. Camco Technologies was proud to contribute as the core automation technology provider.

Key highlights of the project include:

  • Vietnam’s first semi-automated container terminal
  • Camco’s first automation project in Vietnam
  • Deployment of our BoxCatcher, a rail-based intelligent camera system on the front legs of the ship to shore cranes
  • Deployment of an automated truck gate system
  • Integration of AI-powered visual recognition and automated workflows

Together, these systems are driving significant improvements in terminal efficiency, safety, and throughput—accelerating Vietnam’s port modernization.

Looking ahead: a long-term commitment to shared growth

At Camco, we believe innovation should go hand in hand with sustainable growth and social value. Our activities in Vietnam reflect that philosophy—whether through state-level cooperation or through boots-on-the-ground deployment of cutting-edge terminal automation.

And we’re just getting started.

Looking forward, we are committed to deepening collaboration in logistics, infrastructure, and education—partnering with Vietnam to shape the next chapter of smarter, greener port ecosystems.
