Essential container and truck data is captured with AI-enabled cameras. Our cameras are generally acknowledged as being the most performant available today, both in terms of data accuracy as in terms of speed.

State-of-the-art camera technology

When processing high flows of truck and container movements 24/7 and in harsh weather conditions, it is recommended to invest in a sustainable solution.

Camco 16 MP cameras feature a high-end lens, image sensor, sensor controller, and embedded AI processor. Global shutter technology and remote focus capability ensure top-quality pictures in all conditions.

Dedicated engines based on convolutional neural networks and OCR technology immediately start processing after each shot.

Powerful CPUs use different algorithms to process different images at the same time. The processors are embedded, making the information available much faster compared to a remote AI server.

AI- and deep learning expertise

The Camco camera systems run powerful AI-engines for data capturing. These engines run on Camco expertise in deep learning and Convolutional Neural Networks.

Convolutional Neural Networks learn by experience. Camco feeds the networks with vast numbers of images, learning the network to recognize object features and characteristics.

Designing the appropriate network architecture and tweaking the algorithms for optimal performance requires time and expertise.

OCR and OFR leadership

Optical Character Recognition (OCR)

Character strings recognition and label reading are the most typical and common camera checks: container number and ISO code, container weight information, labels, truck license plate, etc.

Optical Feature Recognition (OFR)

Our cameras are also trained to recognize physical characteristics impacting the container handling flow: seal presence, GENSET presence, cargo classification, etc.

Automated Damage Detection

The vast dataset of crystal-sharp pictures of containers, trailers, and trucks is used for the development of new value-creating applications like f.i. Camco's Argus Automated Damage Inspection.

OCR performance

Confidence level, the system hit rate, and process job rate are the Key Performance Indicators to evaluate for OCR/OFR set-up. A computed confidence level for each feature in each picture will trigger an operator verification job if below a pre-set threshold.

The higher the system accuracy, the lesser operator jobs will be required to correct and validate missing data.

Outperforming competition in performance

A pioneer in image recognition technology, we continue to innovate in camera technology and OCR/OFR software development.

Acknowledged as the market reference in terms of speed and accuracy, our systems have been implemented in more than 280 terminals across the globe.

Terminals want fast processes; too many unnecessary operator jobs slow down the operations.

OCR/OFR camera applications in terminals

The Camco OCR/OFR camera technology is a cornerstone of the Camco terminal automation solutions. Camco OCR/OFR cameras are implemented in every step of the container hand-over process

  • GATE: Truck OCR/OFR portal reading all in-and outgoing truck and container flows
  • RAIL: Rail OCR/OFR portal to keep track of rail wagons and matching cargo
  • CRANE: STS-crane BoxCatcher registering loaded and unloaded containers
  • YARD: RMG OCR/OFR cam registering container transfers in the yard

Missing data by lacking or misreading information will dramatically affect the OCR/OFR system performance.
